Shockwave

Shockwave

Shockwave therapy is based on the use of sound waves which stimulate tissues to repair themselves. It is a little noisy, but many dogs will tolerate it well, even the noise sensitive ones.

Shockwave can be particularly effective for ligament and tendon issues, osteoarthritis, lumbosacral disease, and has been used to treat a range of other conditions. It can be effective in restarting an inflammatory (healing) response in a chronic inflammatory condition, or where the healing cascade has faltered or stopped. This sound wave based restart to the healing process is really beneficial especially in the long term and chronic issues.

We find that shockwave therapy is generally well tolerated and many dogs will tolerate treatment conscious. For some areas sensitive pets or painful conditions sedation may be required.

Shockwave will usually be used alongside other conditions such as acupuncture, chiropractic, physiotherapy or massage. For some conditions it may be beneficial to use shockwave therapy before stem cell therapy.
